The Shape of Tomorrow

Talk Summary
By clearing forests and burning fossil fuels, humans have drastically altered the global carbon cycle, pushing the atmosphere back toward Mesozoic conditions. We consume resources far faster than the Earth can sustain. To restore balance, society must “stock up” on carbon: using wood products as lasting infrastructure and developing new technologies to capture and store CO₂. This talk connects the food chain you learned in middle school to global warming through the lens of the carbon cycle.

In a “cypher,” dancers form a circle and improvise, and anyone can join as they are, regardless of age, gender, language, or culture. While struggling with English in Canada, she found that stepping into that circle changed how she saw herself and the world. Her talk is for anyone nervous about entering a new environment: the world is more open than you think.

Talk Summary
You do not have to know who you will become to matter now. Drawing on his experience as a business leader, coach, and professor, Arif explores how young people can take their futures seriously without tying their worth to getting them right. Moving forward can mean taking one small, responsible step, learning from it, and accepting help along the way. The talk also asks families, educators, and institutions how they can make that possible, because belonging and support should not depend on having everything figured out.

Talk Summary
In the reuse business, he often sees items no longer needed by one owner thrive in someone else’s hands. People are the same: to shine, we need to find the right place. The key is a clear vision of how you want to live. Even when you can’t know if a choice is right, a vision naturally guides you toward where you want to go. Through his own journey, he shares how vision shapes the choices that create our future.

She is also a garden coordinator, and helps people shine in body and mind through community-rooted wellness.
Talk Summary
What began as a simple idea, a workout event at Kintaikyo Bridge, drew 188 local residents along with local businesses and the city government. About 80% of participants were older adults who don’t use social media, and the event spread entirely by word of mouth from her students. Her message: the future is moved not by followers but by companions, by one person’s commitment and others’ willingness to respond. At 48, she tells young people that the future is shaped not by age, but by a chain of actions.
